I used to have just a jon boat with an electric tolling motor. But since I purchased my gas motor I’m confused about how often to charge the battery. I have been checking the charge everytime I go out. It is usually charged all the way. Pretty much all the battery gets used for is starting and tilting the motor. How often should I charge i charge it to preserve the lifetime of the battery? There is very little info on google about marine batteries maintanence.
IMO, If you are just using it to start the motor you should not have to worry. I would check it after 4-5 times out just to be on the safe side. If you are not running anything else from the battery it more than likely won’t need to be charged for several months if at all.
Freshwater is for drinking.
I’ve had mine for about 1.5 years and haven’t done anything to it…

Keep mine fun of distilled water and make sure motor is run for 10 minutes every 3 weeks. Battery is 4 1/2 years old and never had to charge it. Knock on wood!
