I noticed the other day while cranking up the boat in the driveway that after handing the fuel line, I had black on my hands. Obviously the line is degrading and it is time for replacement. The current line is 1/4" but it is really tough getting it onto the fitting on the bulkhead coming from the fuel tank. I know if I go a size up in fuel line I have to replace the fitting at the motor but, does it matter if I go from 1/4" to 5/16 or 3/8? The motor is a Yamaha 70 TLRB.
I went through this a year or so ago. Ended up replacing all my fuel line with Trident A1-15 Marine Fuel Hose.
Had good reviews and Ethanol rated without being overly stiff.
Just know that some fuel line is rated for below deck others rated for above deck ( above deck should have a UV rating). To the best of my knowledge the hose ID should not matter if you move up in size but could be a problem if you move down in size due to a restriction in flow. I have 3/8 inch hose on my 30, 115 and on a 250 hp
without any problems. I also know that some of the ethanol rated hose utilizes a hose liner made of a material very similar to cellophane. I have had a problem when attaching fittings to this type of hose with the liner breaking free from the hose when sliding fittings on and actually causing a clog at the connection. Best bet would be to utilize a heat gun or blow dryer to warm the hose some before putting your fittings on.
