Marine Paint

Has anyone used Supermarine paint? I’m restoring a '78 Malibu and need to paint the hull. I want to paint one color because the low freeboard would not look right with a 2 color scheme. Interlux, Petit, and Awlgrip are excellent paints but are not recommended for areas that would be subjected to standing moisture (wet bunks). SM paint claims to be for above and below the waterline. I found the company online but have not heard of them. I don’t want to invest a ton in the project but I do want something that will look good and last a few seasons without blistering or peeling.

I’m curious too. I repainted most of my hull (below water line) with Petit Easy Poxy and have had good results (sprayed it on). The areas that contact the bunks haven’t really showed any blistering or out of the ordinary wear. In these parts how long do the bunks really stay wet or moist.Would like to know what your findings are if you go with Supermarine.

I’m a big fan of Petit EasyPoxy. It’s dang good paint for the money and I’ve never seen it peel or blister from moisture. We used it on our charter boats for years and they stayed in the water 24/7 without a problem. That’s all I use now for medium budget jobs. For high end jobs I like Sterling. No experience with Supermarine.

I used Interlux Brightsides and it’s held up well. It is chipping off the keel pretty bad but I’d say half of that is because I didn’t sand it well enough to start with and the other half is because of oysters, sand, etc.

I was reading through this forum and saw your boat project. That’s the same thing I’m doing. The hull was pretty rough and couldn’t be restored so paint is the only option. I also saw where you later said the paint was pealing so I checked with Interlux and they advised not to use it where it was subject to extended moisture so that is why I started looking around. I’m a little shy on the SM paint mainly because I never heard of them so it looks like Pettit or Interlux. I love your boat after the restore and hope mine comes out that nice. Can I pm you about some questions I have about the Malibu?
