replacing my floor in my 16ft alum. vhull. i use my boat twice a week and plan to paint the floor to match ths remaining wood since i will prime and paint anybody would i be able to get away with pressure treated plywood? i can get the marine but any thoughts as if i could/should save the extra $60? or go all out two sheets after tax buck lumber 140.50
I am currently finishing up a fuel tank repair and deck replacement. Go for the marine grade plywood. I have been told the bonding resins and process is different. Either way it’s better to it right the first time. Good luck.
Have you thought about using expanded PVC ? It will outlast both. It’s used in structural boat applications and comes in many thicknesses. If your not familiar look up kommerling epvc or Sintra or Jain . EPVC is good for routing, drilling, has excellent screw retention, generally easy to work with and comes in sizes from1/8 , 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1"
The PVC would last basically forever but high I think. I just re-did my floor in Treated & wish I would have spent a little more & did Marine grade. The layers on the treated will start to flake up some after a month or so, no big deal but just does not look so good. I wanted Alum but did not have the $ or tools to put it in properly & also the Marine grade was not readily available in my area.
Have you thought about covering it in a a layer of fiberglass cloth? I glassed in a storage area on a jon boat and it came out real nice.
thanks 4 all the input. i got the marine grade…Dfreedom if i was to do that id want to do the entire inside. would this be an issue on the walls?
The chemicals in treated lumber and aluminum have been known to not get along very well.
I glassed all four sides of the plywood I used and then glassed it into the boat itself.
I use treated on the floor of my Robolo and had it sprayed with bedliner material and painted it white with 2 part urethane that was at least 10 years ago and it looks as good today as it did when I installed it
