Need some help on buying a new UHF radio for the boat! Any input will help. Range, features, cost, etc. I don’t want to break the bank but do want the best bang for the buck. I don’t do a lot of yaking on it, mostly listen. I do want a radio that will get OUT, if I need it!
icom…period, end of story.
if you happen to watch Deadliest Catch, look above the helm stations on those boats, you will see an plain Icom VHF hanging up there, nothing fancy, just a basic Icom radio. Put some good money in your antenna

Absolutely ICOM
ICOM. Your range is determined by the height of the antennae. VHF is line of sight, the higher the Ant, the better the range.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
