marine speakers

i only have four in my boat as well i did this for a customer and yes it’s loud! i rplaced the built in boxes in the gunwales with solid surface material and the speakers r mounted there. looks really cool as the rod boxes were cracked up and faded anyway not to mention a pain n the arse. he’s got lots of vertical rod holders. a dozen speakers n each gunwale plus 4 n the console which i had installed previously. crazy! he does have the option of turning off the 24 add ons to conserve batt power for a day of chasing fish instead of women. i still say he’s crazy but he pays cash!

JL 770’s all the way. Nothing better.

Another thing… Lineman, where are the 4 speakers located? What type of boat?

Speaker placement is just as important as quality of equipment.

It is a pontoon boat. The speakers are in the four corners.

Faith makes it possible not easy.

I have Infinity 6.5 for 5 years and they still sound as good as they came out of the box and they have taken ABUSE. Rained on all season long, washed, etc. etc. Just keep the connections doused with dielectric grease and they’ll last. I’ve replaced the head unit 3 times, speakers 0.

make sure you are pushing enough WATTS for the speakers, it makes a big difference.

like i said power! what kind of head unit r u using?

For what it’s worth I bought a pair of Polk Audio 6x9 and installed with a new high power head unit without an additional amp and they will beat your brains with clear crisp sound. The Polks are also water proof and I have gotten them soaked when washing the boat but they still sound great. Got them from Crutchfield and have not regretted the decision yet. But make sure you have enough power pushed to them or any speaker will sound like a K-Mart blue light special. Good luck.

I put a Sony deck and speakers in my 17’ Whaler. The speakers sound great and I have had no problems with anything. I didn’t even use a splash cover for the stereo. Two speakers and the stereo for $170.00 not too bad.

Also to get good sound from the speakers it does make a difference where they are mounted.
