Marine Stereo

I’m hoping to ditch the portable am/fm i bring with me and install an actual system in the boat. Anyone have any opinions on brands? Which ones to stay away from? Also has anyone had any installed by Best Buy or Custom Car Stereo? Been looking at Fusion head units. I want a true waterproof faceplate.

I mounted an amp under my console and ran an aux plug into my glove box…use my phone for all my music. Love it this way!

Bought my first fusion in march and so far it is hanging in there. It is the ra-200 which has been replaced by the ra-205 now. I liked how small it was, and that it appears to be a sealed unit. I did order a little dust cover for it, for $200 I think it should come with the $9 cover. It stays outside with only the dust cover, which I mostly ordered to keep the sun from damaging the display like the old yamaha digital gauges.

I did not opt for the separate or built in ipod dock due to I am not taking my otterbox off just to plug my phone in. It is cheaper to add the aux plug and use a cord.

Got my boat back in 2001 while I was still in HS. Had a Clarion installed under my helm, that lasted for a long time. Bought a cheap West Marine Head Unit to replace it last year and it is working great still today. Really wish I would have done what you just stated years ago, all I listen to anymore is Pandora on my phone. Know I’m stuck with a big rectangle cut out under my helm.

I’ve had a Fusion with the iPod dock since they first came out and it’s still working great.

Give me a ring. I can will hook you up on both purchase and install. O-Sea- D Boatworks. (843)729-5108.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. FISH 24/7---- 25 Grady w/ a couple of Gas Guzzling 175 Johnsons “O-SEA-D” the old “Havanadaydream”

I second Leetke. Been doing it this way for about 4 years. Had to replace the amp once, but thats easy and not too expensive.

If you still have a hole in your console, maybe you can find a storage compartment from this company. If you don’t see a standard size that will fit, they can custom make one to fit your hole. See the link below.

I too am looking in to a stereo and like the idea of just an amp. Maybe something that will let me blue tooth the music.

Thanks,

I’ve had a few systems installed by Custom Car Stereo. They do a great job and stand by their work if you have any issues.

I’ve done the head unit thing several times and after doing the amp install with the aux plug I’ll never go back.
