going to try out fishing on lake marion this weekend for the first time. Think I will target cats with cut herring. Anyone got any advice? I am going to be on the lower part of the lake. Thanks in advance.
This is a striper forum but my advice for cats on marion is stump jumping around from Randolphs landing up the earth dam and out from there. look for balls of suspended bait anchor or stump hook and fan cast cut bait around. wait 30-45 min if nothing move. Also pick up a copy of SC sportsman this month has great article about cat fishing Marion and moultrie this time of year.
Good luck

yea sorry about the catfish question in striper forum… i meant to say i was going to target cats and also try for some stripers. But thanks for the advice I read the article in SC sportsman…it gave me the idea
No worries
Striper action has slowed some on marion latley, But still out there.
I’ll be out on Saturday trying to fill the box w/ cats for my dad, he seems to be the bad luck guy tho i never seem to do well with him Maybe it will be better this time. call me on 68 (hdgb)
i’ll be in the stumps on a pontoon boat most of the day or until i freeze to death. Not going early tho waiting for the heat tab in the sky to come up a bit. Good luck!

went- freezing and wind howling- didnt get to fish like i wanted to. going to try again at a later date when its not so windy.
Sounds like my winter fishing trips. I’m going out saturday morning, looks like it will at least be warmer even if it does rain. The first day to hit 70* I am calling off and fishing all day
Went out all day Saturday , was windy and extremely cold.
I got skunked , guess its easier to give good advice than to implement it on the water. I met some guys on a key West who were successful said they caught twelve cats out in little river area in the stumps.
Thats if i heard them right thru the full face motorcycle helmets they were wearing.
You don’t see that everyday, wish i had taken a picture. Maybe they thought they were ice fishing by snowmobile in the NE.
Wish i had taken a picture good caption would be yankees invade lake marion for some cold weather cat fishing.
If they were local southern boys i’ll eat the carhart watch cap i was wearing.

Those dam good for nothing yankees. They are probably the ones that brought all this cold weather down.
