Great story. Because of the size limits on black and red drums, its all catch and release. So the state records set years ago are now frozen in place. No way to get a fish to the weight station without killing it, i.e. breaking the law. I’m sure those records have been beat several times since the limits have been in place.

InshoreAngler you are correct! Just look at the 75lb record for the Red Drum! No one will ever be able to break half of the records in Saltwater!

I doubt that the red drum or black drum records have been beat once, much less several times. I know what the fish calculator say, but as in the other post, those don’t work well for black drum. Still a very nice fish. Should go back there and fish with a half crab, but you would have to get lucky enough for the black fish and sheeps to leave it alone for the big blacks to get to it!

I agree with y’all about state records never being broken but state record or not, this young man took something away from that fishing trip that no state record could ever replace. I guess if you believe your name being in print in the record books somehow makes you immortal, then I could see your disappointment but, and I don’t know this young man at all, I’m guessing given the fact he was with his parents when this happened, I doubt he feels any less fulfilled and satisfied than if Guinnes themselves were in the boat with him when it happened.

I believe you read alot into others comments that isn’t there, archer. Didn’t see anyone say they were disappointed. No one was taking anything away from this young man.

Didn’t say anyone said anything about being disappointed. Didn’t say anyone was trying to take anything away from this young man. I was simply saying, record book be d@mned, this young man took memories away from this experience that no record book could ever replace. Again, not saying anyone did or said anything negative about this or tried to take anything away from this young man’s experience.

Sorry you took it that way and read into my post but hopefully I was able to clarify my thoughts for you.
