Bought the reel new in April. It has been used 4 times when this happened. We were jigging for halibut in 450’ with 16 oz jigs and had happened into a school of 5-8 lb rockfish.
What the hell.

Rap,
Can’t see the pic for some reason but that’s supposed to be one hell of a reel from the things I’ve read about them.

I’ve heard the same thing (nothing but good) about the Lethal series. That said, there’s not a reel manufacturer in the world that can boast about a reel with zero failures. It just sucks when it happens to you.
Earn it everyday
If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.
Never shoot a large caliber man with a small caliber bullet.
I feel that in an attempt to cut down on weight and make the reel look sleek, they designed that point of the frame too light. I don’t claim to be a mechanical engineer or anything but it seems like a design flaw to me. I’ve heard of this happening to other people with this same reel.
there was a post on here a couple months ago that a fella broke his almost the exact same way on an AJ.
I think they sent him a new one if that’s any consolation

My buddy was the one who posted it breaking in same exact spot. I have one i use for grouper fishing as a loaner setup. I have see. It go through the paces with grouper, big sharks, and 2 cobia this yr. I love it but this breakage seems common somehow.
Fin Nor Lethal reels are great reels…with one major design flaw. The casting is under cut for clearance where the cover fits. A very bad place to put it IMO. The 100 is advertised at 45# drag? First, I dought you could acheive it. Second, the reel would probably break at 20#-30#.
In this pic you can see the sharp corners wear the cover fits. Definitely a weak point in design. Don’t think I would trust one with a 40-50lb Halibut in 450’ of water. Just sayin’…
I know the feeling.
And yes, they replaced it quickly.
The new one has survived a beating. Most recently was an onslaught of endangered ARS. One broke a rod that was in the rod holder. My brother locked down the drag and left it in the holder. Still got it. about a 20lb ARS that was released safely.
the damage. Took both of us to get that one in. Rod held up for a good 20 seconds before snapping.
10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.
Btw, who was reeling wrong handed on a spinner?
10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.
That’s the way the angler wanted to fish it. Big time snook guy from FL set in his ways.
Why is it wrong handed! I switch my handles to right side drive! Just more comfortable for me! They make them switchable, so it can’t be to wrong:wink:
I reel with my left. Therefore, that is the correct way.
Did you know 2500 left(wrong) handed people die each year using tools designed for right handed people?
10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.
the only issue I’ve encountered being “wrong-handed” is having to take it easy so as to not “unwind” the handle itself when fighting a fish…tough to tell a newbie how to do that, but to me it is all in the feel…sorry, didn’t mean to hijack the thread from the reel failure itself…

could you tell that to my wife.
to add to the actual discussion. I bought my LT100 for right around $100. I just started doing some nearshore stuff and wanted something to try. I had been using a couple battle 4000’s on cobia. Obviously, I didn’t have enough to stop some big fish. Of course I didn’t get them until after the cobia were gone last year. So I found some AJ’s and tried to break the LT100. I chummed them up at the wrecks and played around with some for a couple hours. 15-25lb fish. The reel was great. Drag is strong and smooth. I thought the reel was perfect for someone who doesn’t live offshore. Then it broke. I still use the replacement the same. But if it breaks again, I’ll replace it with a spinfisher v or quantum cabo.

Cabo!!! And you won’t need the biggest to out perform their biggest.
Finnor is replacing free of charge.
I’m going back to the SSV if I run into problems again.
