@runbabyrun thanks for clarifying that! I’ve always heard that cheap scallops were stingray.

Like I said no swipe at anyone, it’s just something I’ve heard soooo many times. On a side note Keith, are those Kastking reels as good as you say they are, and which brand is sealed nicely, and has good capacity for surf fishing for reds, whiting and such. Thank you Sir.

@runbabyrun the Kastking sharky 2 would be the fully sealed one and although I am biased because they now sponsor me, I can tell you that it is sealed and really well. I believe the sharky 2 runs from a 1500 up to a 6000 series. The 6000 puts out at over 40lbs of drag and It really does even if people don’t believe it. I ran a month long torture test on my sharky 2 and it’s still working great, when I say I tortured it, I tortured it bad by throwing it in the surf, burying it in the sand and leaving it is a salt bath at home over night and I have yet to rinse it off and she still is just as smooth internally as day 1. Carbon fiber drag washers are super smooth as well. Here is the link to look at it more in depth ---->. https://www.amazon.com/KastKing-Sharky-Waterproof-Spinning-Reel/dp/B00MC10CJO

I think the big one is $50, also I have to say that the customer service is top notch, they will take care of you if you have any issues. It normally takes 2 days to get from Newyork to here since they give free Amazon prime shipping.

Thank you Keith. For 50 bucks it’s well worth taking a look at. I will grab one and give her a try. If the claims are accurate, it’s a steal. Most good reels these days cost 3-6x that.

absolutely! let me know if you have any other questions about it as well.

I’ve got a knack for catching big rays for some reason!! Here are a few from various places.

Mine either! I’ve been popped a few times, maybe more than a few:face_with_head_bandage: I think I’d rather be snake bit. The little ones are more dangerous and likely to get you than the big ones. Cut the line. It ain’t worth the picture. And no, they don’t taste like scallops.

You brought up a four year old post about a stingray you caught?

I don’t get it…

I was just going through all of my post and saw the date on it. Couldn’t believe how long it had been, that’s all.

The string ray on the bottom picture actually didn’t have a tail at all. Looked as if it had been missing for quite some time too. Top pic was after a few cold beers on the beach!!!

Call me crazy, but I boat 'em all. I usually wanna keep my rigs and hooks.

I actually got this one in a cast net. Let me tell ya – it was a pain in the ass to get that thing out. Believe it or not, the net came out without even a stitch broken!

I usually catch a few good ones each summer. One summer I measured a few and the biggest was 6’1" with a barb about 5" long. Nerver weighed one but they are pretty heavy. PITA to land on a dock too.

Caught one on SI last year and some dude was out there swearing that those big rays haven’t been around since the 80’s as I tell him the fish I’ve been fighting for 15 minutes is a big ray. Lots of crow for him to eat 15 minutes later.

A few times on the beach I’ve let some interested spectators get a few minutes of fighting in to see what it feels like. They love that stuff and are usually worn out pretty fast.

I agree with whoever said that he big ones are much safer to handle. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t hold it on the bottom side for a picture though…besides beer I guess.
