we have a Carolina Skiff 198DLv and want to fish near Little River with the wife and kids. We would love to actually catch something, really anything. What are our best bets for going home with fish? Inshore , NearShore whatever. I dont mind going out a mile or two but would prefer to stay close to land with not a lot of experience in the open ocean. would love to troll up the coast for something , but what? what bait? any help would be great as this is a bonding experience for the family and fish would certainly make that happen.

You can fish along the jetties for flounder, also reds, trout and other assorted fish to be caught around the rocks. Also you can troll clark spoons along the tideline outside the jettie on a falling tide for spanish or troll just off the beach.Lots to be caught right now, usually some cobia and big spanish at the Jim Caudle 3 mile reef as well as flounder, trout, maybe spadefish and certainly a bazillion black seabass if you just want to catch something.Seabass are out of season now so throwbacks only.
That is exactly what I was wanting to do. I would like to fish the jetties and would love to catch some spanish mackerel. So you say I can troll for them up and down the coast? I figured we would fish the jetties while the sun is not so hot and when it heats up some we will do some trolling to keep the bugs off and keep a breeze. What do you recomend for trolling, how far out? what bait or jig would you recomend?

oh also if you dont mind. what bait works best near the jetties? was planning on some blue crab and maybe finger mullet. We do have a live well. and also what jigs or spoons work best when trolling.

As far as trolling I like to stay just off the muddy water line and follow it around, otherwise I will run parallel with the beach as soon as I come out of the jetties, the north side is very shallow once you clear the jettie and can be dangerous at low tide(waves rolling up on the sandbar),o or oo clark spoons are deadly on spanish, use about a 10 ft leader with a 2 once egg sinker(egg sinker, barrel swivel then leader) and run 1 or 2 without a weight.Bait at the jettie can be just about anything,I mostly flounder fish so mullet, tiger minnows and mud minnows are what I use.Fresh shrimp will catch a variety.Hope you catch em up!
