Caught 2 reds ( one 19 incher and one 8 incher) May 18th using frozen shrimp on a Carolina rig. Water temp 76. Fished 2 hours after high tide on a small creek off the Cooper. Got rained in a little bit, but had a great day. Only had 1.4 to fish that day, so I’ll take it.
Went out two other occasions to the same spot at incoming low tide and caught several 8-10 inch blues on mud minnows on Carolina rigs. Used a few for bait for big boys near the harbor. Had 2 “big hits” on chunks of bluefish. Both cut my 50 pound floro leadader near the hook (guessing a shark or larger blue?). Put on a wire leader, but couldn’t get them bite again. I won’t lie, I was a little bummed to not see what the big hitters were, definitely the heaviest thing I have had on the end of the rod.
Couldn’t get anything to bite on artificials, tried trout tricks and mud minnow paddle tails on trout eye jig heads.
I will not complain, went out 3 times and didn’t get skunked!!
