going up to Santee State Park for a week beginning May 31st, the last legal day for stripers. I want to at least try that evening after we get settled in. My thoughts right now are to go out to the edge of the channel, try to mark some fish, put out a catfish rod or two, then spend a few hours casting rattletraps or deep diving crank baits. Any other suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Cut bait on the bottom in the trees across from the state park. We caught a ton of cats so far this year. Put your bait beside the trees in 8’ of water or less. I caught my biggest cat this year in 5’. It was 50 lbs. As far as the stripers are concerned they have been really slow in the river this spring and most have already gone up river.
