Maybe a dumb question but

New to the area, but not King fishing. I have caught many Kings right around inlets in Eastern NC (home)and sea bouys, but was curious if any are ever caught at the tips of the Jetties or between them? I would think if the Menhaden are there, so would an occassional King.

You are exactly right, quite a few caught there, I too fished N. C, Southport, and the shipping channel in Southport is the hot spot, just like Charleston. Hope you can be in Charleston this weekend for our first meeting of the new King Mackerel club. PM anytime…

You sir are dead on. During the kingfish tourneys here ALOT of the boats seem to stay in the shiping channel from the rocks to the C bouy. It is down right crowded on the outgoing tide once the tide line forms. Lots of kings are caught there.

Starting next month the Kings should be starting to show up with water temps rising. Pogeys are the bait of choice also have caught plenty of kings on mullet believe it or not. Happy hunting shipping channel can be a busy place and fighting a king can be dicey but the kings are there. And worth the hassle in the summer.

I start with lines in right at the end of the jetties and troll the shipping channel out the the C bouy and back, where you find the bait you will find the kings
