Mayhem bottom fishing 1/31

2 bean bags in the road, leaking oil cooler, birds dive bombing baits before you drop them, and the dreaded check engine light. Other than that a good day. Left late and was home early. Big sea bass, b liners, triggers and the red snapper were unbelievably thick! Bonita everywhere. Never seen birds so aggressive literally hitting them in the head with fishing rods and it didn’t faze them. Plenty of Bonita out there too which the bottom fish didn’t seem to mind. The snapper definitely were preferring the jigs though. The grouper still elude me even out of season…

Not a clue how to fix the pics. Sorry for making you sea sick

That’s a good looking box of BSB. Nice Mule also.

Nice catch, do you mind if I ask you what you were using to catch those bonita? We went out yesterday as well and the Bonita were pretty much coming right up to the boat, but the only thing I had to throw at them was a little crankbait and they had no interest in that at all.

We were catching them on gotcha plugs yesterday and most days that’s what we’ll catch them on. Throw over the school and reel fast through the school while jerking the rod. They definitely like a fast presentation. Very similar to catching spanish. I’m surprised they wouldn’t hit a crank bait. Small bucktails and spoons with about the same retrieve work as well.

They most definitely were. They didn’t want to stay in the boat. Maybe the bulldog didn’t want to get wet, lol. Both were recovered…

And thanks again for the bags and I had a great time out there Saturday.

Wow the water looks even flatter where you were then where we were what depth were y’all fishing. I bet you could really feel the bonita’s strength on that rod, I caught my first bonita last trip on a little heavier rod and they fight awesome.

Great photos!

Keeping my eyes and ears open…and trying to learn.

We fished the 90 to 110 ft range, was super nice. It’s fun to take trout rods and hook them up. Multiple hook ups going opposite directions make for good time catching bait.

How deep do you start seeing the Bonita this time of year?

I’m sure they are shallower at some times but normally I start looking in 60 or 70 ft. You either see them busting or the birds diving.

Nice,.
