Left out of Sullivan’s Island, just behind Raddaddy. Asked them at the dock to leave a few for us…and they did. Thanks Raddaddy. Headed straight out, found a slight temp break in 550’, so we deployed the spread. In no time the reels started that beautiful scream. One after another for the better part of the day. Never ventured too far from that break as it drifted north and had good action all day. Saw fish jumping all around most of the day as well.
Toward the end of the day, decided to try and catch the Triple Tail’s we had been seeing as we worked the crate and bucket we found. Shawn finally hooked one and put it in the boat. First for us! They were very picky about eating. In the meantime, ended up bailing several dolphin. So we finally decided to try the net. Barely missed on the first attempt and of course, they vacated the area. About 30 yards away was the 5 gallon bucket we saw a Triple Tail hanging out in, literally. So we eased up to the bucket, the fish moved further in the bucket like an ostrich burying its head hoping the trouble would go a way. I scooped the bucket up, fish inside. Ever had a “bucket fish”, you know, the one that pulls so hard it feels like you are reeling in a bucket? Well, this was the easiest “bucket fish” I have ever caught. Had a bonus Trigger fish in the bucket as well. Tried to do a selfie to make the Trigger look big. Thought I could fool some CF’ers here, but it didn’t work.
Great way to start the season. The dolphin are here and they had good size to them. We did toss a few back since we were catching good average size fish.

Wow that is the tiniest trigger I have ever seen! Congrats on a successful day. Those tripletail are some of the most delicious fish in the ocean
awesome report, thanks…

Praying to get the opportunity to head to the 226 or out that way in search for a rip, weeds or temp break this weekend. How many Phin’s came home?

FB2, I decided to no longer post numbers. Reason being is I think the numbers the management council comes up with that rec guys catch is ridiculous. Seems like they take the numbers folks post on sites like this one, multiply it by the thousands of boats they THINK go out…everyday in 15-20+ knot winds and they have their catch number. IMO, the management council thinks these reports are a good “sample” and they can build their numbers from here. Someone on this site broke down the Cobia numbers awhile back that the council said were caught. No way in hell was my thought. They, the management council, don’t take into account when we have a great day on the water, we want to share it with others. I am sure there are quite a few folks here, like me, that have had bad days and didn’t take the time to tell about it. Also, maybe it is just me, but I doubt it, we have spent a lot of time on the water to learn and improve what we do. And we still have bad days, just not as many as we used too.
Ever watch Big Fish Texas? Looks to me like those guys are raping the ocean.
With that said, I am happy with how we did Monday. So get out there soon and be safe.
