Mayhem & Madness 4/30

Late report and as you have seen from the other Saturday reports, lots of good fish out there! But thought I would share anyway.

Tried to catch wahoo at The Outcrop on the high speed troll, port motor started acting up so we ended up putting out the regular spread and going deeper. Caught one OK size dolphin in 235 feet. Decided to pull lines and head deeper yet. Around 1000 feet saw a 2’ board. Put the spread out and started catching fish. Then saw an 8’ board and a large trash bag with it and continued to catch fish. Then came The Rope, a ships mooring line, jumbled up in about a 12’ X 12’ area, LOADED with dolphin and triple tail. GOLD MINE!!! First pass, Quad! All five lines were hit, but the way back didn’t hookup. Next pass, four lines out, all four get nailed. Had several triple hookups following as we continued to work The Rope! You could see good size dolphin all lit up under the rope each time we passed. Saw one hungry dolphin grey hounding with about 8 leaps after a flying fish trying to make a mid-air tackle. Don’t think he got it though. Decided to breakout the light tackle and have some fun. JB posted up in the bow with a top water lure and all we could hear from him was laughing and hollering. Dude was having too much fun watching the dolphin nail the plug, each time popping it out of the water. Seems like the fish were just having fun smacking the lure around and didn’t want to eat it at first. But they finally started hooking up. Meanwhile, the rest of us were simply dropping baited hooks over the side and hooking up within seconds. Lots of crazy fun. Eventually had to stop and make sure our catch was iced good. After resorting them in the boxes and fish bag, we realized we didn’t have enough ice to continue. Made the decision to not gamble on keeping fish iced and headed to the hill just before noon.

Hate I didn’t get a pic of the rope with all the life under it. But just too busy working through the craziness.

Had cousin Mark on for his first dolphin trolling trip. He is hooked. Esp

Sounded like a great day, I like it like that, lol thanks for the report.

That sounds like the day I pray for and haven’t seen yet. Way to go on finding the sweet spot.
