Mayhem & Madness 6/10 - Met the Ambassador

Great day on the water, just could not locate the Gags or Scamps. Worked hard to get live bait at the C-Bouy where we ran into Northchucky. Looks like they had a great day. The Cigars were there, but could only get a few in the bait well. Anyway, we headed to our spot in 80’. The little bit of bait we had was gobbled up by the ARS. Let go a heart breaker and he swam off very healthy. I think we were on the spot where every ARS in the Atlantic has congregated.

Decided to move out to deeper water with a stop at the weather bouy. It was LOADED with Cigar minnows and about 30 Baracudas. Once again, we struggled to get the Cigar Minnows to bite. Then Charleston’s Ambassador of Offshore Fishing (Sellsfish) shows up. Great guy and extremely generous. Once again, thank you Sellsfish for the handoff of the secret weapons. They did better, but the bait were as stingy as the grouper for us on Friday.

Moved on out to the ledge and found some giant Beeliners, Silver Snappers, a Sandtile and 4 Graysbys. Also caught a good size King back in 80’ while dropping a Cigar to the bottom. Came home with a nice mess of fish.

Sellsfish, hopefully you finally found the Gags and/or Scamps. As I recall you were still fishing hard when we were headed back.

These guys have some wicked teeth on the bottom jaw. Wish I had gotten a better pic of his teeth.

About 7’ of laziness right here. PITA in 160’ of water.

Excellent photos.
Apparently trolling was mostly a bust with dolphin heading North.

We had some monster sharks show up twice on us in 160’ Friday. It’s sickening to have to throw that ARS back. I wish we could ATLEAST have a bag limit similar to grouper.

Word to the wise about that sandtile you said had the wicked teeth, watch their gill plates too. They have a clear as glass dagger shape spike which got my thumb yesterday morning. Bled all over the boat until i wrapped it and It was still bleeding after i took the wrap off when we were done cleaning boat and fish. Here is pics of the glass dagger.

We couldn’t find a decent gag either but we did catch one undersize gag that was just as cute as a button. We trolled for most of the day with two dolphin, a wahoo, and one short strike. Wahoo was kind enough to bite the only wire we had in the spread. Additionally, it was my boat’s first wahoo. We did a little grocery getting on the way back too.

Nice work right there. We tried some deep drops as well but just scored AJ.

“Back home we got a taxidermy man. He gonna have a heart attack when he see what I brung him”

You got the Charleston Push down packed!

Yeah, we put two grown ARSs like that back on Saturday. Shame. Grouper were hard to come by but we brought a couple home. One on squid, one on the jig.

May all your favorite bands stay together…

Are those size large purple nitrile gloves? Haha just realized we have similar (same?) gloves on.

Sellfsish, hope we can return the favor one day.

Millacd, thanks for the heads up. That is a nasty gill plate for sure. Yeah, I am pretty sure that is the same glove. My hands are pretty wimpy when exposed to water all day. Those gloves help. I also use a pair of red chemical gloves from Home Depot when bottom fishing, just on the left hand to grab my fish. They are pretty punture resistant. Occasionally a fin will get through, but not often. They usually last about 6 months.
