6/7 - great ride out. Fished deep, past 226 Hole. Ended up with 13 dolphin. Average size dropping quick. 3 were decent size, 5 so-so and 5 small ones. Could have had our limit on the little ones, but pulled off the weed mat to look for bigger fish. Fun to catch, just need to let the grow some more. Ride in got a little bumpy. Talk on the radio was not encouraging either on the dolphin bite, or lack there of.
6/8 - decided to bottom fish only since the average size of the dolphin has dropped and the ride out would be bumpy. First bottom trip since April, man was it fun. Had some first timers on board. Quote of the day - after the bait had rested on the bottom for 5 seconds, fish on. Sheldon says “wow, I have never caught a fish that quick”. Good Vermillion comes over the rail. I told him, if you don’t feel anything within 10 seconds, he stole your bait or we are in the wrong spot. Great day with the guys from Newberry. Think they are starting to realize why I will fish over hunt when the weather is right.
Unbelievable stat of the day: More Red Snapper were caught than Black Fish. Uh oh, they are probably going to close Black Fish now. Sorry guys. Then again, the Feds may not know what “Black Fish” are. The average size of the Red Snapper is much larger than last year. We fished in the Gardens, about 75 feet.
Caught Vermillion, Triggers and Black Fish. Can’t give numbers or the CF Police will scold me (even though they do it themselves). [:0]
Now, what button do I push if I go overboard?
