Mayhem & Madness Tackles Scampzilla

After 2 1/2 months of sitting on the Hill trying to find time to fish, we finally were able to put a trip together this past Sunday. Thanks to the 3 generations of Patrick’s from Boston, we were able to introduce them to the awesome fishery we have in Charleston. After a 3 1/2 hour delay in getting started (due to battery issues), the Patrick’s still had faith in the Mayhem & Madness to take a 90 minute ride to the reef in 90’. As soon as we arrived, the Triggers were attacking like crazy. Pretty cool to see the school follow their hooked buddy up from 90’. It was tough getting through the triggers to get our Black Fish, Beeliners and Pinkies. But we pushed on…

Shawn, the dedicated jig man on the Mayhem & Madness, pulls in a very large Black Fish off the jig. The rest of the crew continue bailing Triggers, etc. and Shawn persistently works the jig. Then the uh oh…reel peeling off line like crazy, rod doubled over, Shawn a grinnin’. Big AJ? No, grouper… then holy cow, big *!@# Scamp! The Scampzilla comes over the rail and Shawn starts to screaming and yelling, jumping around the boat like a wild man. “That’s the biggest Scamp I have ever seen!” he yells about 50 times. Pretty funny to see from a guy that rarely shows a lot of excitement.

Quote of the day from the Bostonian: “It was worth the price of the flight from Boston to see Shawn get so excited.”

Great day on the pond, ran about 27 out and 36 mph back. Should have pulled a water skier the last 5 miles, but everyone was afraid of Mary Lee lurking.

Ended the less than 3 hours of fishing with:
1 - Scampzilla that Haddrell’s weighed in at 20.50 lbs.
21 - Triggers
15 - Black Fish
8 - Beeliners
1 - Gag
5 - Pinks
1 - Grunt
