40 gals of gas: $110
2 Dz ballyhoo: $20
Tail of 40lb wahoo sticking out of the fishbox: Priceless
Long ride in a small boat, kept hearing about the temp. break, and finally found it at 11:00 in about 350ft. 67 on one side, 72 on the other. We hit the break with five lines in, and were not able to get five out again. Just about non-stop action. At 1:00 with the fish box almost full, start talking about heading in, one of the 25s screams, 40lb wahoo makes it in the boat, the first wahoo to see the inside of my boat. One small dolphin boatside released after than an then the long ride back into what wasn’t the predicted south wind.
10 dolphin, largest was 15-18lbs, 2 peanuts
1 wahoo
(I’ve found that when you filet peanut dolphin you get filets that look much like flounder filets)
ok…someone is stretching the truth… 350 feet… south towards 226 there, trolling and back to the dock safely on 50 gallons…that doesn’t seem right… I know that there used to be a guy on CF in a cDory with twin 90’s that went all the time on 40-45 gallons
but a 23 sea hunt with one 225 yamaha … all the way out I have the 226 at N3200.488 W7903.879
Is it possible he paid to put 40 gallons MORE of gas into his tank. Meaning he already had 20 or 30 in the tank, and therefore didn’t “pay” for it on this trip?
Nice job on the fish by the way. A 40lb whoo must have been a blast to fight.
150 yam 4 stroke takes me 5/8 to 3/4 tank out there and back all day trip depending on how long I stay, 100 gal tank. Thats going just past the 380, 226.
Last week it only took 47 gallons for our round trip of 175 miles…

I generally get around 4 miles to the gallon (4 X 40 = 160)
I have a SeaPro SV2100 with a 150 Yammaha 4-stroke.
I did not fill the tank when I got back, so the 40 gals is a pure gestimate, but is that really all that important. When I do fill-up I’ll be sure to let everyone know exactly how much gas I used.
We still still had a blast, and caught a lot (by my standards) of nice fish. The boat doesn’t have a huge fish box, but I’ve never not been able to close it at the end of the day before.
Congrats on a great day. My boat won’t do nearly that good, but I’m running a carb.2stroke. At best I’m looking at 2.5 mpg.
Notice I said “at best”.
If someone would buy my current boat I would get me one of those “gasmaking” 4 strokes.
I went 2 weeks ago in my parker 2520 to the banks trolled for a few hours south and then ran to the 380 1500 ft trolled in and ran home 50 gals! I can understand why you don’t want to think this . My last boat took 175g every long trolling trip . twin 200 ox66 . People laugh when they see my twin 115s , but the people riding with me love them .
