Meat Fish Slam - PainKiller 4/13/11 *Video Added*

Wed afternoons have resumed on the PainKiller. We left MI at noon, heading out in sloppy seas to the gt hole. Lines were in the water for no more than three minutes and WHAM! Big slinger phin.
Set the lines out again and WHAM! Black fin tuna. Reset the lines and had a smoker on the reel - just respooled the TLD 50 and the handle started going backwards - lost the fish as he bit through the mono leader.
The bite slowed down for a while, headed to the break, and another smoker on the line -again - bit through the mono leader.
Changed to wire, headed south, and it was ON with another smoker - this time he didnt get away! 40 + lb hoo! Triple meat slam! In April!
But it wasnt over. Landed another hoo, this one slightly larger. Wire was a good move!

Finally, another Blackfin ended up in the box.
Home in time for the last inning of the boys baseball game - thankful for the speed of the contender!
Hot colors - blue and white, off the top.
Water temp 68-69 degrees, 180-300 feet

Nice report. Congrats on the catch. Just a quick question. Roughly how far is a run from the Charleston Harbor to the GT Hole? Thanks.

It’s 55 miles from the Charleston buoy on a 95 degree heading.

I don’t want to be rich,
I just want 1 dollar more than I can spend!

Nice Day Fellas. Looking forward to my first offshore of the year soon.

Thanks Brian. Much appreciated. Not trying to take over the thread, but what about the 226 hole? New to the Charleston area and just trying to get my bearings.

Go get a maps unique for the charleston area. I got mine from west marine.

Pretty work!

I have a maps unique for Charleston, the problem is it’s in the boat on the second level of the Dry Stack. I’d hate to ask them to pull me off the stacks, just the grab my map. Might upset them a bit. Thanks for any help on a rough distance. Just trying to decide on a couple things for tomorrow and sunday.

Thanks for the kind words. Perhaps change is in the air for Charlestonfishing?

Alright, Wednesday “WHAM”.
Thursday was sweet too…

Learned a easier way to bleed the tuna than with the knife. We use to use the knife as well but I saw a guy stick his thumb under the gill plate at the bottom of the fish, toward his peck fins, push your thumb through to the other slide and simply slide forward toward his mouth. Very soft tissue here and you can effortlessly slide your thumb all the way to the base of his mouth. Have him over a drain or something cause he will bleed like a stuck pig!

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Wahoo is actually a really good sushi as well.
