Tried posting this in the Georgetown forum, but there’s been no replies.
Anyone know and recommend an outfit that has a portable media blasting unit to travel to Georgetown to blast my hull? I know of a few yards in Charleston that can do this, but I would like to keep the boat in G-town since she’s docked there.

What does the media do to the gelcoat? My bottom paint needs redone, but would prefer to remove it and spray with gelcoat or awlgrip. Can media blasting remove the bottom paint without major damage to the gelcoat.

Just spoke to Chris.
His number is 757-510-2168. The other one doesn’t work.
The system is designed to remove the paint without damaging the gelcoat.
It leaves the gelcoat at about an 80 grit finish.
When it’s finished, all you have to do is rinse the “media” off with fresh water, let dry and start painting.
You can rent the stuff from Chris or he’ll do it for you at your marina or at Charleston City Marina.
Larry Knapp at CSM (884-3000) can give you a quote. They can also do the finishing work (paint, gelcoat, etc.) if you want.
Looks like a great system, but it’s not cheap.

Didn’t want to give his cell so i posted the other # I had for him, sorry. Its a great system that can take off coatings layer by layer, as much or as little as you want. Not cheap but much faster, easier, cleaner than other methods.
