I assume we’re still having it. The home page hasn’t been updated and no talk of it has been on this message board. I’ve got my gear together to discuss spoon fishing as the program spot. Someone please let me know if plans have changed. Otherwise, I’ll assume everything is a go.
I’m sure there is good reason for the info not being updated. It is a busy time for everyone; so I am not trying to ruffle any feathers. Heck, the Georgia Dawgs couldn’t come close to doing that Saturday night:stuck_out_tongue:
Hey Fog, like you I know many of us would like to know what the meeting is each month “before we get there”. I have heard this from many members in the past few months… While I know and understand we are all real busy, and this is a volunteer group, I still think we would attract better attendance and possibly more new guests attending the meetings by announcing the meeting topic at least a week ahead. And for those not familiar with us, always post our meeting location and time. I would think this forum probably gets as many or more hits than our website most months.
Like you, not ruffling any feathers or firing at any individual, I just think as a club we should always have up-to-date info on the website and forum board regarding meetings and tourneys…
Look forward to you sharing your knowledge and techniques…
Hey, folks. Sorry that I haven’t had more time to tend to the club business, but I have been on the road with work. James, thanks for stepping up and presenting tonight. I have many distractions at present with work and family. I am sure that there will be leadership opportunities available in the coming year for those that would like to help promote and steer MSC, so you may want to ask yourself if you would like to help lead the club forward. Thanks to all for your patience. Hope to see y’all tonight.
I’d just like to say that certainly, as a club officer, there are tasks that become your responsibility to complete…but I also know there are several club members who would step in to lend a hand if a club officer ever asked for any help…No one should ever feel overwhelmed to become a club officer. Fostering communication and teamwork will always lead to the best product…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
I, too, am frustrated that upcoming program info is rarely published. That’s just one of many changes I have seen over the last few years - some good, some not. I joined MSC during the first year of the Catchall dynasty. I would not miss a meeting during the next few years for anything. I attended a seminar at Dreher Island put on by Catchall and Westwind. What a great job they did! and I took it hook, line, and sinker. Mr. Ed and others also put on outside seminars. We moved our meetings to the Hilltop. I liked the arrangement of long tables in a line. You could just walk in and sit down to some pretty good conversation. I think the arrangment of the tables now make it more clique-ish. MSC published membership rosters - which made it easy to send cards to the sick or to recognize a special event. MSC published a list early in the year of the program for each month. Sometimes it changed, but it was available. We used channel 72. I haven’t had a response on 72 since the last time I talked with Jon Boy, and that was several years ago. Neither have I heard anyone else on 72. Does anyone use it any more? It seems that the preferred communication method now is the mobile phone. But mobile phones are exclusive, not inclusive.
I agree with much of what Van Man wrote. Whatever we do should attract members, guests, and browsers to the web site. There is a lot of good info there. And make it fun to be a member. This is Business, not Personal.

You guys are right, if you say, you’re going to be an officer you need to be able to do what is expected of you. I realize this year’s programs have probably have been the slackest and poor planned than any year before me. It’s my fault, I realized about half way through this year, I thought to myself, What was I thinking taking another responsibly on my plate, but it too late for this year. But hopefully next year there will be someone who can take it and do a great job. I know it’s not personal but business, so I am publically on this forum apologizing for my slackness and lack of preparation sorry for letting the club and its members down. Thanks Fogman for doing presentation tonight cause I won’t be there to thank you in person. I hope everything goes well tonight.
Tommy
For years, as many of you know, I did my best to create, enhance, maintain and update the web site, as well as write, edit, produce and mail our newsletter and maintain our club database. That worked well even after I moved to Beaufort in 2003. In 2009, I lost all staff associated with the Harry Hampton Fund, primarily my business manager position. I had to fully assume our Wildlife Expo in Spartanburg as well as assume all accounting, bookkeeping and financial functions. During that critical time, Richy Brensinger stepped up and did a yeoman’s job in learning the software to update and maintain the web site…a lifesaver for me.
Last year we made the decision to dissolve the Wildlife Expo, freeing up some time for me. However, I also had to assume our scholarship program. Recently, I feel as though I’ve become proficient in both Quickbooks for my business functions as well as streamline our scholarship program and port the application and criteria documents to our web site. Therefore, I can again help more to keep the web site updated and fresh…and I don’t mind doing so.
Over the years, the most difficult job I’ve faced in producing both the newsletter and the web site has been getting the information and photographs to publish in a timely manner. Tracking down someone who had the correct info and photos was very often difficult. I can’t thank Debbie Alewine, Richy, Lorraine and others enough for their help in sending photos after I moved to Beaufort. Woody was a lifesaver by doing tournament write-ups that I could copy, edit and publish to the web.
If the club is serious about having an up-to-date web presence and is willing to have someone consistently and email me the photos and copy to publish, I will make the time and the commitment to get it posted in a timely fashion.
Living in Beaufort and the time and expense of driving up often has kept me away from the club in body, but not in mind or spirit. I love the club as much today as when I first got active well over 20 years ago. I’ll be glad t
You are certainly welcome Tommy! Everything seemed to go alright. In fact, for you and any other VP, if a program ever falls through, feel free to call on me to share something. I can usually pull something together without much notice. As a teacher, I do that all the time and don’t mind getting up and speaking with little notice.
Don’t be so hard on yourself. Your work and personal life have to come before the club. We understand! Just let us know what we can do to help in tough times.
Thank you Flatbroke for all you have been willing to do for MSC!
