Membership

I have been thinking about joining this striper club but would like to get some members take on their view of the club activities and tourneys. Also does the membership form on the MSC website have the correct contact info.

Yes the contact information is correct. The club functions to make you and the whole family better Striped Bass anglers. Young or old, and man we got some old ones…lol but very knowledgeable. The tournaments are an opportunity to keep you on your toes and challenging your game monthly. Ultimately its experience on the water that makes you a better angler. With the club you can benefit from the collective experience and accelerate your learning curve. Some of the knowledge pours out in the meetings, other information you will get by asking questions of the anglers you form relationships with. Compete against yourself in the tournaments. Just try and be better the next tournament than you were the last… or make the next “spring” season or “winter” season better than your previous year…find the next “honey hole” that puts your old honey hole to shame…you learn to catch fish, you learn to catch fish consistently, then you learn to catch bigger fish consistently…you learn to identify the differences between the things that work good and the things that work better…and then you hope you can afford those improvements in your budget…lol or you could just join the club for its comedic value…We love to laugh at ourselves for the time, money and effort we put into chasing fish. It gets pretty hilarious at times…

Team Shad Up & Fish

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…

I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…

I joined the club about four years ago. I’ve made some good friends in the club that have helped me learn to striper fish In addition I’ve learned to deer hunt, work on my boat, maintain my fishing equipment among many other things. It’s a good group of guys to get to know. The tournaments are not all that serious. The money isn’t there so it keeps things friendly for the most part. I was recently at a cross roads in my life that could have taken me to another state and I chose to stay right here in Lexington. A big part of that decision was due to my involvement in MSC and all the friendships that have come from it. My name is Shawn Gearheart, come on by the Flight Deck next Tuesday night and say hello.

I ditto that of Woody and Shawn. I can promise you that this club WILL make you a better angler if that is your passion. I will also reiterate that you will not find a better group of men, women and kids to fellowship and compete against. As Shawn said our montly tournaments are not about the money and more about the “bragging” rights and satisfation of performing better than other anglers/boats. Many members don’t even fish the tournaments and join for the monthly meetings and programs. Come by next Tuesday and I promise you won’t be disappointed. My name is Richy and I look forward to meeting you.

“My biggest worry is that my wife (when I’m dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it.”

I’ve been a member for about 2.5 years. It’s a great club. Family oriented and no one takes themselves too seriously. There are some extremely knowledgeable anglers who are very willing to share tips and techniques. Just don’t expect them to be as willing to share many favorite spots - lol
As others have mentioned. Come sit in on the meeting Tuesday to see if it’s what you’re looking for.

I’ve been a member since 1987…so I’m one of the “real old” guys Woody mentioned. The club has evolved in many ways…but its core remains fishing, family and fun. You won’t go wrong with MSC. I consider it part of my “family” and have made many friendships that have spanned over a quarter century. I’ve both learned and helped teach. This club wants you to succeed. The best thing is to come out to a meeting and give MSC a try free without pressure to join. If you feel we’re a good “fit” the $30 fee won’t break the bank.

I live in Beaufort…so I don’t make the meetings any more. (My motorized walker can’t take the potholes on 26 & 95 Woody) But the club will welcome you as our guest any time you wish to come.

I certainly wouldn’t be willing to give up my MSC membership! The friendships I have made, along with the vast amount of angling knowledge, have been invaluable! We no longer have to attend meetings for points, and attendance has not dropped off at monthly meetings to my knowledge. That speaks volumes! We look forward to our time together! We’re not perfect of course! Occasionally, there are disagreements and ruffled feathers as with any organization. But in the end, we’re all in it for our fishery and sport! Most importantly, it’s a great fellowship of people who love the same things-- the bend of the rod and the screaming of the drag!:sunglasses:

Give us a try!!
