Memorial Day Americans on Pallet's new 26' Scout

Pallet and I went and picked the women up last night at the airport as they returned from vacation. They gave us too much time waiting on them, so we devised a plan to get them on the water this afternoon after they caught up on sleep this morning. The plan came together like the colonel on the A-Team always said he loved.

We got out of the Stono Inlet around 3PM and went out to some close stuff of mine in Pallet’s new 26 Scout. The bote ran better in 2’ at 4 seconds crap when we ran it at 35kts. I saw 40 kts on the GPS at one point, but there came a few screams from astern around that same time. Had to slow back down… I was pretty impressed with the her handling and she is for sure good looking. (insert joke about one of the ladies here).

Never got over 90 feet and put plenty of triggers, BSB, B liners, pinks and a few ARS (red snapper) in the bote. Released about as many smaller fish as the larger ones we kept.

How much fuel did you burn? I was wondering how the air assisted hull and those F150s would do. I am thinking that boat will be going to the stream soon.

Not sure. Holler at Pallet later on today. We only did about 55-60mi total, and I saw gph in the 20’s most of the day on the yamaha fuel gauge.
The boat seemed light to me because of how it seemed to have a lot more speed going from 4000 to 5000RPM’s for example… it would do over 40kts WOT I would say. With tabs down, it needed to run about 18kts to stay on plane offshore. I could tell a considerable difference between those F150’s and the DF175’s on P1’s Mako 264 when we dragged the anchor yesterday, but as far as cruising and top speed, the F150’s seemed to be perfect for the bote.
The air assisted hull stuff is interesting. The steps on the bottom of the hull are pretty small, but I suppose they make a considerable difference at higher speeds.

I run the 262 abaco and have found the same thing over the last 3 seasons. doing the 140 - 160 mile round trip to the stream and back plus fishing all day I burn around 70-90 gallons. the boat can run at WOT and hit 52mph. at 4000 rpms runs about 30 mph and 2.2mpg.

She takes a beating on a head sea. the air assit hull slaps as it comes off the wave and sometimes it can be down right bone jarring. But in a following or quartnering sea the ride is fantastic and fast. Every design has compromise and the 262 is efficient and fast but does slap if you are staring into the face of some steep waves.
