Although the “official” maiden voyage of the new-to-me Edgewater was last Saturday’s debacle of oil issues and seastar leakage, the Mighty Fin launched out of Wappoo at 0530. First Mate and right hand man “One F” Geof Hall was out of action with a torn deltoid so I had a new crew consisting of Billy and Chris - both experienced fishermen which always makes a day more pleasurable. We grabbed some menhaden behind Fort Sumter and beelined out to Comanche (with a couple stops at the buoys looking for cobia). The spades were extra thick but they weren’t on the menu. Made a few passes over the reef only to have our spread get terrorized by the donkeys, with three in the boat and two lost. We had the deep rigger (50’) get hit by a ‘hoo or a big shark because that tyrnos was screaming until a change in direction cut the line. With no dolphin in sight, we headed SSE to 135’ where we mixed it up with a batch of peanuts and one borderline slinger. They were drawn to the spread but we hooked them all on nekkid menhaden tossed into the washout. Headed back to Comanche in search of cobia but it was nothing more than a donkey rodeo. Great day on the water. The full moon wasn’t a factor but the lack of wind may have been. Regardless, it was a great day with “the good people”. I’d be happy to share pics but who wants to look at a buncha AJ’s and a grown man strugglin’ with a peanut? Oh, you do? Here ya go. Thrills a minute.
