Menhaden Charleston?

Anyone else having trouble catching them here? I’d had good luck several trips. Then last week they seemed scattered and yesterday I could not find them at all. Granted I decided to just use a sabiki and went fishing about 7:30…could not waste the flat ocean time looking for bait.

The only diving pelicans were in too shallow water behind M Island. I tried casting where some bait showed up on the graph to no avail. Looked on all three sides of Morris. Maybe should have tried Crab Bank or the harbor, or the ICW? Luckily the sabiki did its job. But I really like to have menhaden.

What did you catch on sabiki every time I have been out and tried its to rough to sabiki anything or boats keep plowing through the bait schools scattering and deepening them. With out structure scan sometimes you have to throw the net a lot, even though your showing bait on the screen it isn’t exact and usually slightly delayed and off because of 2 moving objects. I’ve thrown the net on dozens of flicks many of times and pulled up nothing and thrown on a single ■■■■■ and had to release the net most of the way because there was way to much bait, its just like that some times.

Thats where they were

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

40inch, I got a variety on the sabiki, over structure at the 60 and live bottom.

I do have side scan, and you’re right it can help. But I think what I was marking was not menhaden, but a smaller minnow. Saw some of the smaller birds catching some too. Too little for my purposes.

Interesting the menhaden were in the shallows. Tide was high so makes sense. Guess they’d have moved back out as the tide fell. I went that direction but water got skinny for my boat. I have caught them back in Schooner Creek years back, but it’s tricky.
