ok I im sure Im not the only one who has wondered this but is there truly is a difference between menhaden oil and menhaden milk. and part two, is one better the other for different applications? thanks for y’alls input.
May your reels continue to sing and your lines stay tight
The ‘milk’ is water soluble. Meaning it stays down in the water column where as the oil remains at the surface. I use the milk cobia fishing a fair amount. I attach it to my anchor chain in a little bottle with a pin hole in it…The oil used in this manner would rise back to the surface, and the milk stays down near the bottom. If you are using just as a surface drip off the side of the boat for kings and such, either works well.
Just be prepared for a swarm of baby sharks if your cobia fishing this spring using either.
My bait freezer broke and I haven’t done it in awhile, but if you take a couple of 5 gallon buckets and throw some rocks/dirt in the bottom and as you clean fish (any kind) throw them in give a good poring of Manheden oil in the mixture and then freeze the whole bucket with lid re-installed. When you get to your spot have an electric drill with a 1/2" bit and put holes all over the bucket and sink it seems to work better than a mesh bag.
We’ve used an I.V. drip for top water oil dispersal.
What ever you do I would recommend some rubber gloves, cause the oil or milk tends to linger on ones hands even after a good wash and rub in lemon juice.
