Got some buddies coming down for the 4th that want to do a little kingfishing Friday. I haven’t kingfished yet this season been trolling the blue water. Wondering where the best location would be to try and fill the bait well Friday morning leaving from Remely’s. Are the menhaden pretty thick in the harbor? Up the Wando around 526? I’ll bring a couple packs of ballyhoo in case we can’t find them. Thanks…
I was fishing out of Remleys Thurs and Friday and found no Menhaden in the Wando. Only Menhaden I saw all week were in the ICW toward IOP and scattered out past the Fort in the Harbor.
I would take some ballyhoo if I was going out right now.
Thanks I’ll try the fort area, and if no luck will pull the hoos’
We were down last week and they were VERY scattered.
Most of what we caught were at IOP marina.
Never saw any in the harbor but really did not look if we had some in the tank.
We would see them one day around the 526 bridge and then the next day would not see a thing.
I would pick up some ballyhoo just in case

They should be in the ocean by now, in front of Ft. Moultrie, and I have heard in front of Morris Island. That’s why you are hearing small pogies in the harbor, big ones in the ocean. Check both sides of the jetties, especially on the current side, watch for pelicans of course, but I would take cigars instead of 'hoos. However, you must pull those cigars less than 2 mph, {slower than drifting}; so troll them AGAINST the current to slow you down. Good luck and give us a good king report for the first time this year, I am a die hard KM man, my boat should be ready soon, and I’ll be out there with you guys.LOL and tight lines.
Just curious as to how far back you should troll the live pogies.
We tried several different distances but most of the bites came on the downrigger

I’ve caught kings directly behind the boat in the prop wash on live pogies
The Ashley is covered with them near the Citadel area up to Cosgrove.
If you are putting in at Remley’s though, I’d go right in front of the Fort and look for them. We’ve never had problems catching them there…just a little rougher than the rivers.
Be there or be on the Short Bus!!

The beer tasted just as good. How’s the king fishing in Minnesota?
I’m told it’s walleye, musky, catfish, and bass(imagine the movie Fargo).
