Ron, some small ones are down here around Port Royal sound. They are about 3 inches or so.

Same around Charleston, except a little larger at ft. sumpter I heard.
“The big one’s still swimming, let’s go.”
the little ones have started to show!!! that means one thing the bigger menhaden are on the way and the kings are right behind them.
Right now they are great cobia bait.

Great News!!! I will soon be a happy man throwing a net and smelling the fragrant aroma of menhaden. (it’s been too long since I have been fishing)

Menhaden where popping in the harbour all day Saturday saw them on the way out and on the way in.
Been seeing A LOT in a couple places but they are up in the rivers. All about 5 to 7 inches at the mouths of creeks. Have seen reds flash at them but they act like at the last second the menhaden are too big.
Keep casting.
Smokey makes sense, the big hadens are in the rivers after the spawn, the small ones are being taken by the current to the sea on low tides. Also those big ones may be gizzard shad, instead of menhaden, but probably menhaden, the big ones are somewhere. I would try starting pretty far up the rivers and creek mouths, then last stop BEHIND ft. sumpter in the shallower side of the harbor.

They were out around Dawho/Edisto yesterday afternoon.

Took a closer look yesterday while fishing around 526 to see if I had mistaken like mac said could happen. Did net some gizzards but most all were haden. Still all between 4-6".
Keep casting.
