Menhaden

Best place and method to catch menhaden out of Edisto? Would love to have live bait when we go next weekend.

Were you drunk when you drafted this question FB2? Hope you have a cast net?

Cast net is my first choice.

Steven

Trolling silver cedar plugs in Shem Creek utilizing outriggers is very productive or you could use a cast net…

stop pulling his leg guys, sabiki teasers are where its at for bull menhaden

I hear ya Mill… Trolling in figure 8s w/ sabiki teasers will bring em up. Schools will start popping around the boat. Don’t forget to throw your cast net… “throw it”.

Cane pole and red worms is my second choice.

Steven

If ya fishin outta Big Bay creek,go left for 1/4 mile and try just off the beach in 7’-8’

You can’t catch fish on a dry line

I like to pull a seine net behind my boat from the outriggers. You usually get menhaden, shrimp, tasty flounders, and all sorts of critters. Fish love structure, so you want to find some good oysterbeds to trawl around.

You recommend a size on that seine net Skinneej?

The bigger the better... You want to catch mucho fish, right?!?!? More net = more fish...

This is a tough crowd

Ezday, a friend of mine in Savannah has a Robolo 20 named EZ Morning. You wouldn’t be related would you?

Not drunk. I was referencing cast net vs Sabiki and where to start to look. I have both. I have had minimal luck using sabiki at the cans out of Charleston.

Skinee, you ever tried a sabiki daisy chain off the back of the seine net? You know, kinda tease em into the net? I bet that just slays the big ones!

I would suggest getting out early morning, look for the menhaden smacking the surface near creeks, docks etc. Worst come to worst the pelicans diving hard around the shoreline will show you the light.

Out of big bay jig sabiki at C3 can or look for birds on the bars north of the can and cast a net.
Out of N Edisto look for birds around the shrimpboat wrecks on way out and by Deveaux Bank or the R6 and R2ne bouys.

Cast net best option…
