Merc 115 RPMs?

I noticed this week when I was running to a nearshore reef that my RPMS were running a little higher than I remembered. With the throttle all the way down it was running at 6900 RPMs. Any idea what might be causing it to run high? There are no real sounds or anything that are coming out of the motor that are unusual.

Slipping prop hub maybe? That’s too high, be careful with that, engine go boom!

Four Stroke? F115 is 6300 max, and has a rev limiter…

Are you going any faster than usual? Could just be a borked tach… try tapping it when running.

sounds like a tach issue
6900rpms and I doubt that motor would stay together

Think Chris is right.
I just had my tach checked and it was 1200 RPMs too low.
Adjusted to within 300 and ran out of range.
I’m ordering a new tach next week.
