merc 225 burned 140 gallons

I still think there is something wrong here.

I run twin 225 opti’s and don’t burn 140 offshore.

You can’t determine much until you determine the fuel burn from a full tank, otherwise you’re just guessing. Then once you get a true picture of actual burn v. gage burn, you can determine the accuracy of your flow device and re-calibrate as required.

Don’t forget, a 150 gal tank won’t necessarily allow you to use all 150 gals …

That’s alot of fuel. I use to run a 29CC with twin 225 optimaxs and run from Edisto past the 226 hole and fish all day and burn on average 110 to 120 gallons.

112gals still seems like a lot.We fish on a 35 express w/inboard deisels and would only burn ~ 180gals on that trip.

Ok so what’s the consensus. Run it offshore with a full tank and see what it burn and go from there. If there is still a reading problem then address it?

I had twin 250 efi ox 66 motors, and if the o2 sensors and vst filters were dirty it would cause increased fuel and oil use. It would almost double fuel consumption.

May want to have Chris V or someone check it.

i didnt respond, waiting for you to get real numbers
still dont have real numbers
cant make a judgement, until we know EXACTLY how far you traveled (gps log)and EXACTLY how much fuel you burned.
gas gauges are notoriously inaccurate
750’ means about 130 miles just travel from the boat landing out and back
that doesnt account for any trolling time

I did an over nighter last year and was 105 miles from the rocks. Trolled 2 days and bottom fished, and only burned 140 gallons.

112 seems high if you were just cruising speed. If you had the throttles buried for half the day, that changes things.

i hear ya chris, next time we go out i will make sure to make note of miles and gallons burned!! thanks!!
