Merc Ignition Replacement

OK, I got a replacement keyed ignition for my 2000 Merc Saltwater 125hp because the one with the boat is busted. Ive looked through my Seloc book and can not find the wiring diagram. The new switch that I ordered has 6 terminals (Labeled M, B, M, C, I, S)
M- Magento Circuit
B- Battery +
M- Battery -
S- Solenoid
I- Ignition Circuit
C- Choke

Problem is that I dont know what the 10 wires coming into the old switch are for because the old ignition terminals are covered. Any help identifying these wires would be a great help. Thanks.

  1. yellow with black stripe
  2. larger gauge red
  3. red with blue stripe
  4. black
  5. black
  6. yellow with red stripe
  7. black with yellow stripe
  8. black with yellow stripe
  9. purple
  10. purple

Any help identifying these wires and where they go would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

small hands…smells like cabbage.

This is really strange. I log onto this site about once every two months. Tonight wanted to post about my ignition switch on my 125 merc and saw that someone else has the exact same issue with the exact same part. I also have the 10 wires as described above, looking to replace with generic standard 6 wire if possible. My thought was that 4 of them are duplicates, but without getting into the coons nest inside my console not sure what the extra four wires are for. Like the other guy, looking for some insight.

Thanks!

So maybe the 4 are duplicates and converting to 6 terminal switch, 4 terminals will have two wires instead of one;

Ignition = 2 x purple
Magneto = 2 x black w/ yellow
batt neg = 2x black
shift interrupt = yellow w/ black, yellow with red

“Ia Orana”

yellow/red is the start circut, it goes to the starter solenoid the shift interupter switch is simply in-line.
yellow/black is the primer (choke)
purple is accessory (key on 12vdc)

know it all is correct, the yellow red does go to the starter solenoid, but when you are hooking it up,under the dash, it goes through the shift interupt, and
the red with the purple is the power wire for the tilt trim switch on the handle

AM DEW
the yellow red and yellow black DO NOT GO TOGETHER
most replacement switches do not have a seperate location to power the tilt trim
(red/purple)
you can feed it from the red wire

gentlemen, huge thanks for the help, very much appreciated. Also, guy at West Marine says the “M” terminals are interchangable.

Just to confirm:

M = both black w/ yellow wires
B = Red AND red w purple stripe
M = both black wires
S = yellow w/ red
I = Both purples
C = yellow w/ black

Thanks again
