Mercury DTS

Does anyone know much about the Mercury DTS (digital throttle and shift or fly by wire). What I need to know is should it be drawing current when all on the boat is off? My neighbor’s boat had dead batteries last week and he decided to replace both of them. While we were installing the new ones we noticed that there was a small amount of current draw (sparks) when we connected the DTS leads. We opted to leave it disconnected until we could find out more about it. The engine is 2010 Verado 250hp.

Ant help or information would be most appreciated.

Thanks ya’ll

usually when you first connect the stuff, it will pull a small load, to power the computer, then it will shut down.

Thank you Mr. Chris. We will connect it up on Thursday through an amp meter to make sure it shuts off after a spell.

Thanks again!

mercury likes the computer to stay hot all teh time, but it usually doesn’t draw much. Most DTS set ups are on a bravo, if you have a bravo drive, then it has mercathode. Mercathcode will kill a battery in a few days depending on environmental conditions. If you don’t leave it in the water for any length of time, mercathcode isn’t helping. If the water it stays in has more than a 2 knt current, mercathcode isn’t helping. If its a trailer boat, pull teh fuse for the mercathode when its out of the water, hook it back up when you put it back in.
