Mercury fresh water washout

Hey guys. Ive got another question about my new to me Mercury. It looks to me like it has a freshwater washout attachment. Being a former Yam owner, you could just screw the garden house straight to the attachment. This one looks like I need a fitting to attach to the garden house, and then to the attachment. Im pretty sure that this is what this attachment is, I pressed the spring loaded “closer” and salt water shot out (i tasted it). After flushing the engine with ears, fresh water came out. When I press on the button (the area that says “CPC”, a slip moves back and forth like a lock to hold the adapter in place.

I have googled the “CPC” that is stamped on the top, and have come up with nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And if you know where to get the adapter that I am missing, Thank you.

Not sure what model that is, but the Veradoes have a hose pig tal that comes out the side of the motor that screws right to the hose. The optimaxes I had 6 years ago had a hose attachment on the back of the motor–just a threaded hole with a plastic nut plugging it–and the hose screwed directly into it, but it was tough to get to, so I bought after-market male-to-female pig tails that looked just like that one in the pic. At least I think they were after market. They may have actually come with the motor. Hard to remember. It’s been several years, and my memory on the specifics of that are a litty fuzzy. I’m guessing the Merc you have is similar and either came with a similar attachment or the previous owned left one screwed in (I don’t know). Assuming that this is the case, you should be able to buy another male end. If you can’t find the male end that attaches to the hose, find where that female piece screws into the motor and unscrew it so you can screw in the hose. Be careful, though, because if it’s like my old Optis, there’s a gasket around the threaded hole on the motor housing that is easy to dislodge while connecting a hose (another reason I used the attachment). Godspeed to you.

That is a flush hose but you have to get the male attachment from Mercury. A local dealer should be able to take care of this for you. I have the same hose on my Mercury and I just use ear muffs because I haven’t gotten around to ordering the attachment. I know several people have cut the hose and put a screw cap on the end instead of that funky contraption.

That blue cap holds the part you are missing. Shouldn’t be hard to find.

thanks for the info guys. im very tempted to just cut it off and install a new contraption. the only thing that i am concerned about is the backflow stopper that this adapter has on it. Im not sure if I could find another that would have a built in piece that would keep water from coming out of it when the engine was running. Ill figure it out now that I know it is what I think it is. Thanks for your info.

for the amount of hassle it will take to convert to a “regular” hose fitting, and then make a cap for that, I would just go by the nearest dealer and get tehm to order the part.

Duncan’s probably has them in stock.

I had the same setup on my Merc. I think I lost the male connector or it started leaking. The replacement was expensive, so I just went to the garden hose section at lowes and replaced the end piece with a plastic adapter and turn cock to either stop or allow water flow.

Yeah, I just stopped by Matthews Marine in Bluffton. According to their books, you cant just buy the male adapter. You have to buy the whole kit at $116. The garden department is looking a lot better. Thanks for the ideas.

Savblue,

Yes, $4 is a lot nicer than $116. Plus, the $116 model comes with 2 pcs while the rigged model is only a single piece. I’m pretty sure I lost the male piece of the factory model…thus forced to come up with an alternative. If you need pics, let me know.

wow on the 116.
wonder how that got priced?
I could see $35 max.
