I am looking for a good, honest Mercury mechanic. In the last year I have dealt with two major lowcountry shops and have not gotten the honest truth or really any truth from them. After about a year long saga, I have finally have my Mercury engine running again.
Hopefully, it will soon be replaced by something else (suggestions welcomed ~ i’m thinking Yamaha). In the mean time if I need to get any more work done where should I take my boat?
Ya won’t find a more honest and reputable marine mechanic/shop then Chris V., Charleston Marine. And he stands up very strongly against the fishing closure issues afffecting us all.

No first hand experience but I posted the same question a couple of months ago and several folks recommended Whitton. I spoke to them and they were very helpful but I ended up fixing the boat myself.
I have been through similar nightmares in the past and been to numerous Merc shops, including the one mentioned above. i feel for ya’
The only 1 I can recommend is Longshore. The labor rate is very high but they will treat you right and provide customer service. They won’t tell you to call Merc yourself if they can’t diagnose the problem is 30 minutes or less.
Check out an Opti post in this forum from a week or two ago. I experienced the same run around. If it’s an Opti you don’t want a shade-tree mechanic to even touch it.
I did see a Merc logo on the blinking Chas marine ad on the homepage…Does that mean Chris is doing Merc warranty work now?
no, we do not do warranty work on mercs, not yet.
we do alot of out of warranty work on mercury, and if its under warranty, I send it all over to paul at longshore.
if its a 2004-2005 mercury 4 stroke 115, that is a yamaha fuel injected motor, that was painted black.
I think the gearcase and tilt and trim, and the stickers, and mercury.
the rest is yamaha.
We would be glad to be your source for repairs and maint.
no, we do not do warranty work on mercs, not yet. WISH YOU WOULD!!
we do alot of out of warranty work on mercury. Yepp got mine over there right now, just waiting on the parts to arrive and I bet as soon as they do I will get the phone call. Couldnt be happier with Chris and his crew.
Another vote for Paul at Longshore. I was pointed in his direction by several on the board, including Chris V. for Merc warranty work. I can’t speak very highly of Whitton.
