I’m in the process of restoring a ‘66 Whaler 13’ and bought a '93 Mercury 25 hp motor to put on it. I was told that this motor has a thermostat on it that prevents the water from pumping through until the motor warms up. Does anyone know if this is accurate? Also would like to know of someone who works on Merc’s of this vintage?

They do have a thermostat but, water still comes out the pee hole it just doesn’t get hot until after thermostat opens up. Most 80’s and up I know have one.
I’ve got an '87 Mercury 45hp Classic 50, and as far as I can tell, it does not have a thermostat. A Merc. mechanic I know tried to find one on his parts schematic at work (with me there next to him)and could not find one. Not even a listing or part number for one.
