Mercury Verado's

What is the opinions on these motors? If you are going to bash I would like to hear the reason. I have one on my boat (250) and like so far. They are quiet, strong and does pretty well on fuel.

Ditto.

I think most of the initial apprehension about these motors come from the fact they are superchargers, which provides another failure point on the engine, not to mention forced-induction motors run hotter and are under more stress. Every other manufacturer makes motors in the same power range that don’t weigh significantly more and perform basicially the same without the use of forced induction. A four-stroke motor is already complicated enough, so why add to the list of potential problems?

That being said–I am a total gearhead and love big, powerful, high-strung motors and I don’t have anything against Mercury. Verado’s may turn out to be great long-run motors, but I think in the realm of offshore fishing speed and whiz-bang technology play second fiddle to the simplicity and proven dependability that people trust to get them back to port.

I have checked out the site. Good info. Just looking for some local opinions.

I like them so much I had to get 2…
Only problem so far, is the fuel float ethanol problem, which was covered under warranty.
I only have 120 hours on them, but they are quiet, run strong, and provide good speed.

If you want to go fast you do.

so did you?

Go FAST yes! Want to race?

sorry, i see now you have one’ glad you like it. did it come on the boat you bought (no other option) or did you have it put on a boat?

Got a Whaler and Got a Verado.

Wanted a Pro Xs (1), VMAX (2), Yama 4Strk (3) when I started looking. Didn’t really know much about the Verado in 2006. Found the exact boat I was looking for and it had a Verado. Couldn’t be happier. Everybody that’s been on my ride is amazed at how quiet it is running 5mph or 55mph. Had a coil go at 650ish.

I did…
I found my boat, less engines. I decided that since Donzi was pretty much already in bed with Mercury it would be easier to sell later on with the Verado’s.

So far, I am happy with my decision… Even installed them myself…

i think they are good engines. affinity charters had one on a bay boat with like 8000 hrs on it w/o a hiccup

I know a family that downgraded form a 36 to a 31 Contender. They got a deal on the new 31. The only reason he bought this particular was for the money savings. The 31 came with Verados. He had had nothing but problems. Last we spoke, he said that Mercury had already done over 88K in warranty repairs. Had to fish G-town on one motor, and the thing is always in the shop. His biggest fear now is that he will not be able to get rid of the boat. In Florida, it is almost impossible to sell a boat with a Yamaha on it. Here is SC, it is difficult to sell one with a Mercury.

had a 225 Verado i think it was an 06 with 2000 hours on it without any issues. Very smooth, throttle and steering was effortless. I wish they sold them with my Scouts, but I cant complain the the Yammi 4stroke 250, got 1700 hours on an 07 with no problems just louder, siffer, and steering is no comparison to the Merc

Thanks for all the comments!!
