Usually bring my boat down 3 to 4 times a year. Last years weather was less then desirable on more than a couple of ocassions. Typically we flounder and redfish in MI creeks. Was looking for something different. Have been North on the ICW from 544 toBarefoot landing. It was ok but kinda narrow and boring. Was told the trip South to Georgetown was better. Would probablly put in at Wacha Wachee marina. Is there any area I need to be extra careful in? Also are there any areas in Georgetown like the marshwalk in MI? Would like to dock boat site see and eat a meal. Oh my rig is a 23’ CC. Most likely will be drowning a few baits will I have to purchase a freshwater license for ICW or will saltwater license be ok?
That’ll be a nice ride with nothing really out of the ordinary to watch out for. You’ll need a freshwater license if you plan on dropping your line in anywhere west of Rt. 17, which means anywhere prior to hitting Winyah Bay. Georgetown has a board walk and some nice places to eat, the ones that haven’t burnt down.
Make sure you stay in the channel when you make your starboard turn into Georgetown. Water gets a little skinny off that point. Other than that, you will have no problems. It is a nice ride. I was down there yesterday and they have just about removed all the fire damage. They do have a harbor walk there. There is a little place called Alfresco on Front St. The food is fabulous, even for lunch. Come down and enjoy. You can put in at the public dock. Georgetown works so hard to be viable in these tough times. They will be glad to have you.
