My buddy, myself and possibly my dad will be coming down the weekend of April 15 and fish Friday-Sunday for my 20th birthday. We make the trip down every summer for a week and every other so often throughout the rest of the year. We will be staying on Isle of Palms and keeping the boat at the marina. What type of baits and areas are working this time of year? Not looking for any particular spots, just types of areas and what to fish with. Thanks in advance.
Just a heads up, Charleston Race Week is the same weekend. There will be 200 plus sailboats racing in the harbor Friday through Sunday of the same weekend. As for fishing, guess it depends on the water temp, or not, since that is such a hot topic on the forums right now.
Thanks for the tip on the sailboats. Is it very difficult to catch bait in a cast net this time of year? I have only tried it in the summer time and was curious if it was more difficult in the spring time or not.
Just wanted to see if anyone has any advice closer to me coming down. Will be coming down first thing next Friday and fishing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Anyone have any advice for anything inshore?
Give the IOP marina a call the day before you head down. They usually have mud minnows. I don’t believe they have shrimp. Haddrell’s for shrimp, if they have them. That will give you a backup plan if you can’t catch any bait.
Fish the creeks behind IOP and Sullivan’s between Breach Inlet and the ICW, both ways. Fish the docks and the grass line up to high tide. The other side of creek can be productive as well with a mud minnow under a float drifting.
