Mid January Flounder Slayin

Fished today in an undisclosed location near edisto island

Headed out early to catch the flood tide in our spot. Caught a few dink flounder then I got a NICE fatty a little later on. Largest flounder I’ve caught since who knows when. Kept messing around. My buddy and his girl both landed some pretty spottails. She caught her personal best 29" incher!

Chilled out and caught a seat for a bit. Drank a couple of beers. Decided well screw it ill try again… and BAM. Another beast of a flounder came in. Absolutely crazy luck on my part.

We ran out of mud minnows, but you know the weather was just too nice to head home. My other buddy Matt pulled out the fly rod just for kicks. The dude proceeded to catch 3 flounder, including a nice keeper.

Heck of a day with good friends. Still can’t believe its January… and I caught my 2 personal best charleston flatties

Impressive. Must be in a pond, no?

No doubt a pond. Great job but not close to what would happen on the main water

Pond, creek, ditch, puddle, or whatever, those are some nice flatties. Good job, NC!

Nice fish for sure! But definitely in a salt pond or impoundment!

my buddy in murrells inlet is still catching keeper flounder on the reg in his creek spots, so its possible.

i never catch flounder so i wouldn’t know what is “normal” :stuck_out_tongue:

If a “pond” is accessible via a boat on high tide is it a pond or just a good find? Those fish were caught from a boat that was launched from our local waters…great job on the fish D and even a better job on finding your own spot!

“The problem that infuriates you the most is the one you are meant to solve.”

This post comes off a lot stronger than I intended once I read it back. My point was this report insinuates catching multiple flounder from a boat in local waters around Edisto even with a fly rod. I would call that an impossibility in January in the creeks and wouldn’t want the average “Joe” to believe they could accomplish this feat in a million years in this area in January from waters accessible by boat from our local ramps.
