After reading all the below threads to catch up and rejuvenate my excitement about fishing, I am now even more convinced that I just have get back out there one day this coming week… Of course having read these, I am now also sure of the following:
The wind will be blowing
The bait will be small and die
The bird chasers will come and scare away the top water fish
The one short fish I catch will break off my hook due to using cheap hooks
And my boat will get swamped by both mean and nice people
So please tell me again why we do this? Or do we just need some cheese with our whine since we are obviously glutting for punishment? LOL!
Way to go Van you said it with a smile but it keeps you thinking about how many things go wrong when you go out there.Amazing amount of whine and cheese on this forum but it’s a lot of laughs and fun to participate once in a while. For me personally living in Crystal Lake near you is good enough for me . Let’s Fish.LOL LOL.

You do it for the off chance that none of those bad things will happen, you’ll boat a big one and put a huge smile on your face. At that moment: TOTALLY worth it!
We also do it, atleast in my case, because we can put everything (almost) out of our minds except for our pursuit of the next bite. I go into “fishing mode” when I’m on the water and usually forget about everything else until I’m back on dry land. Especially when I’m with good friends or family. I’ll never be able to thank Fogman enough for getting me back on the water last year after my surgery and during treatments. Best therapy in the world for me was being on the water! What a good friend. He didn’t even make fun of my big ole spoon I was fishing with yesterday! Atleast I did get a couple of bites with it.
I hate to continue the whining, but our baits kept dying yesterday too. The 24-27 inch stripers just wouldn’t stop hitting our down rods and freelines!
Never knew you could whine and smile at the same time!! I wondered if Fog would post how we did.
We had a novice striper fisherman with us yesterday. I think he did pretty dang good. He had his limit before me. Both guys did. That’s not me whining is it?
Another fun morning on the water with Fog. I still think he should paint the boat black and call it the “Fog Mobile”!!
Tim, the fish were from 5 feet down to 50, and a few would occasionally breech but no all-out schooling that we could see was taking place. It was white-capping all morning though. I’m sure some could be caught casting since we were getting good ones on unweighted freelines.
I definitely agree with the “fishing mode and forgetting everything else”… For Dorothy,“there’s no place like home”. For us, there’s no place like on the water.
This board is just like fishing… Throw the bait out there in a post cause you know somebody’s gonna bite. Ha!

I fish mostly because it is just FUN to be on the water Renee and I went out this evening for a couple of hours - first time out in a couple of weeks.
The ONE jet ski we saw on the way out waited until we were clear to jump our wake - I gave him a friendly wave
As I was pulling in my DR’s at C2 to leave and try FL and PB - a nice keeper jumped my bait as I went to pull it in. The fish is cleaned and ready for my neighbor Dottie to enjoy
The one bass boat I was on course with while pulling FL and PB at #26 on MSC map - saw me, slowed down, changed course and went well wide of my set up - I gave him a friendly wave
The bait from Better Bait was good sized and lively
The NE breeze was refreshing all evening long
Sweetgum Maples along the shoreline are turning yellow and red - fall is in the air
A cold longneck bottle to finish the day
I am Blessed to be able to fish and share the water with good friends like y’all!

Dave, we must have been posting this morning at about the same time. Therefore, I didn’t see your kind words quoted above. To me, it’s just a couple of good friends wetting hooks together. However, if the Lord has used our time together to help in your recovery, I feel extremely blessed! Despite all my flaws, I pray every day that I can make a positive difference in the lives of others-- whether teaching kids to make music or fishing. Usually, it all works out well… You know you’re practically family to us Lindler’s; so you don’t have to always thank me publicly for a fishing trip. It’s understood!
James, What do you mean “practically family” my great grandpa was a Lindler from Chapin. Got to be some distant kin in there from somewhere in the past!!
Last year and early this year you had to take it easy on the water while I was recovering. I felt like my health was affecting the way you fished when I was with you. Now I’m back to basically full strength and looking forward to winding in a bunch of fish. I did pretty well late this afternoon. Kept 33 white perch fishing an area you’ve seen me at many times before.
Well Lawcrusher if you read my post and my “laugh” afterwards, any negativity was what was coming from the board as I read through the recent posts yesterday. But I saw your laughs as well… And actually I do not view it as negativity at all. Its just a nice place for everyone to vent and swap good and bad fish stories in a relaxed social media outlet. I don’t think this thread should ruffle any feathers… Believe me, I know why I (and most of us) fish, and I enjoy “every trip” out no matter what the outcome. I have fished with many of the guys on this board and would happily share that experience again any day. Its all about the fun of sharing a great day with both old and new friends. Just found it funny reading the threads and seeing the reoccurring theme coming through… I could have made the bullet list much longer, as I have had these and many more on any given day. That said, I hope to be out there this afternoon in the rain for a short just to enjoy the lake.
