Millions of minnows

Fished this morning and caught nothing but cold, rain, and hell when I got home. Fish finder looked like this all over the Ashley river though…

Casted into it and felt like I was getting some bites but nothing would take the various things I threw at it. Finally got fed up and threw the cast net. Apparently they were giant schools of minnows of some type. Wonder what they were… Some type of spawn I was thinking. I kind of think it looks like a trout

Only thing I could call them is glass minnows or silversides. In the sardine family I think, but don’t take that as gospel.

I’ve caught them up in streams in Summerville, swarming by the hundreds, in water under a foot deep. Watching a white egret try to figure out which one of them to grab is pretty funny.

Probably so. Most glass minnows I catch are a bit bigger and look a little different. River was full of them whatever they were.

Yep and I have caught reds on them, it was this time of year and I was sticking 2 -3 on a jighead at a time and catching fish. I was out of mud minnows.

This is why the new ZMan Slim SwimZ are catching fish right now …

They’re so soft and easy to tear apart so agreeing with DFreedom here. Definitely catch a bunch and put two to three on a jig.

I don’t need you to agree with me.

You can also call them bay anchovies

Salt them down over night with lot’s of sea salt, bread them, then fry in hot oil. Delicious!

But people will never forget how you made them feel.
