I have a 12’ jon boat that i use a 5hp honda. The boat’s transom is 15" exactly. When i put the engine as high on the transom as it will go, the cavitation plate is still 2" below the bottom of the boat. Would a stationary jack plate (T H marine mini-jacker) do the trick? does anyone have one on their boat? The boat is rated for a 5hp motor so i’m not sure if the additional 4" set back will be too much strain on the transom. I just finished rebuilding the transom with 1" starboard and the transom is much more stout than the original transom with plywood. Any ideas/suggestions
I can’t imagine any problems with that jack plate. It says it’s rated to 35HP.
Some of the guys build their own.
yes, that would work, but you could also build your own. I would not ever suggest building a transom from starboar. it is way to flexible.
I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com
thanks for y’alls help. i should be ok with the starboard…it’s encased in 1/4" aluminum.
