I bought this off a buddy and have used it a lot less than I’d like since last summer. I bought and installed an on board charger and new batteries last summer. I charge them frequently and I don’t think that’s my problem. The last two times I took the boat out to fish with it I have had problems. The remote seemed to be messing up last time with unresponsive turning and speed controls and yesterday it wouldn’t even power off without disconnecting the cord, not to mention I felt like a nascar driver having to make left turns all (**() day. I would never recommend a copilot with a remote to anyone and this is the second used copilot motor that I’ve owned. I will have the tiller handle on any and all models in the future. It’s just easier and there’s less to worry about breaking.
Does anynoe know anybody around here besides Marc at the Crappie Hole in Chapin that can work on Minn Kota’s?
If not I’ll get rid of this thing to the highest bidder somewhere.
Before you go for repairs, be certain the motor is perpendicular to the water surface when in use, otherwise it will have trouble maintaining course. Also, I would suggest replacing the battery in the remote, if you haven’t already done so. That could be where your problem lies.
Does the motor have auto pilot? If not I have one with remote I’ll sell you for a good price. I replaced it with I Pilot, which is the absolute shizzle.
The motor does not have the autopilot feature. I replaced the battery on the remote before fishing Monday morning. I called Marc at the Crappie Hole and he told me about the reset button the side where the copilot housing is. I reset it last night but I couldn’t get the remote to work. I was a reading 3/4 charge on the batteries so I was getting power to the unit after the reset, which was nice. Before I go and spend $60 on a new remote that may or may not fix the problem I am going find a copilot remote to borrow. I think I may have fubar’d the remote at some point Monday.
Anybody got an extra copilot remote sitting around they aren’t using?
Frustrating, I know. Mine was acting up some time back, and I finally figured out that I had hooked up the batteries for only 12 volts; done in a rush at night. lol

I have a brand new auto-pilot head/controller and remote that will plug right into that trolling motor. I’ll sell you everything for $100. That’s a STEAL if you’re looking to upgrade to auto pilot.
I’ve got a buddy sending me a new copilot remote and head that he’s not using. If that doesn’t work out I will definitley get in touch with you. Thanks.
just know that you will have to set up his remote to work with your motor. You’ll have to do the same with mine too even if you install the auto pilot. I’m sure you knew that just sayin.
If you hit the reset button, then more likely you have to resync the remote to the trolling motor. It tells you in the manual how to do so, or you can call Minn Kota and they can tell you how to do it.
I really wouldn’t give up on it. Some people have trouble with them but there’s trouble with any product out there. Seriously consider the I Pilot. You won’t believe how good it works. I never would have dreamed that it would work so good.
I got the new remote and new copilot housing Friday and I hooked up everything on Saturday. Worked like it’s supposed to finally. I still don’t really know what my problem was since I used another remote and copilot receiver. As long as it works as good in the water as it did in the driveway I am back in business.
I’ve heard about the I-Pilot but haven’t really reviewed much about it. What’s the difference between the auto pilot and i pilot that you like the most?
