What do you guys think of the Sp series of the riptide. I’m looking for a trolling motor to go onto a 18’ bayboat. 55LB OR 70LB 24 VOLT OR 12. I really like the copilot idea. My father inlaw has one on his pontoon and it works great in the lakes with no current just wind, but what about in the constant current? He has a 70 or 75lb thrust and it really pulls his 22’ with ease so go with 55lb or 70lb thrust I’m a little worried about the 55lb only being 12 volt though. Anyway some opinions would be great. Thanks
I have a 2007 Riptide SP (12V) that pulled my 18 1/2 ft McKeeCraft (a heavy boat) fine. Had no problems until I had to put in a new lower unit this winter (?magnets broke initially).
It certainly did it’s job fine. New lower unit hasn’t seen water yet.
I bought a bigger boat with bigger TM so the MK Riptide SP 55 with remotes is for sale. PM is you want to see it.
I have a 12V minn kota on my 18’ bay boat. It pulls just fine and never had an issue with not having enough battery. Wouldn’t hurt to go 24V if you have the $ and the room for another battery.
The best way to a fisherman’s heart is through his fly.
good motor
go 24volt if you can
no one ever says “i wish I bought the smaller motor”
I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com
I second what Chris said, definitely go 24 volt, and the biggest thrust your pocket can stand
