Minn kota SF trolling motor

Thinking about installing a MK Riptide SF 80 shaft length 62" with quick release bracket. Anyone done that and have any tips or things to watch out for?

Planning to install a new MK SM 80 with quick release tomorrow afternoon, pending the weather. I mounted the quick release mount to the motor last night and ran into no problems. From what I read on the directions on the quick release mount, there are some additional screws that must be removed to take a panel off to mount the bracket on the SF motor.

Don’t know if that helps or not.

take your time when deciding on placement with the idea of minimizing any bow and side overhang when it is in the stored position.

What guage wire and what type circuit breaker?

Wire was already there from previous owner. Checked the voltage at the batteries and at the end of the wire and there was no drop in voltage so I used the existing wire.

I talked to MK, they said to use a 60amp self something circuit breaker. Supposedly, there is a circuit breaker under my console, but I have yet to find it. Called the previous owner this morning and have not talked with him yet.

If you have not already purchased your motor, double check to make sure you want the 62" shaft. I was close to ordering the longer shaft and am glad that I did not. This motor is huge on the front of my boat. What are you installing yours on?

If I can figure out how to post pictures tonight, I will put some on here.

If a TM is (for example) 62" shaft, is that the actual shaft length or is that the overall length from top of head to bottom of motor or yet, even something else?

You can call MinnKota and they are very helpful with any question that you may have. I am pretty sure the measurement is the shaft length, from the groove where the motor is mounted to the foot to the top of the shaft where it ties into the head.
